Often, there is a quiet intuition within us, gently calling us toward a song, a style, or a dream we’ve carried for years. My goal is to help you develop the skills to answer that call with confidence, artistry, and authenticity.

Lessons take place in a bright, spacious and welcoming SE Boise Studio near Baggley Park – with ideal acoustics for vocalizing, and room for hands-on exercises and student recitals.

Melissa Bagwell holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Pacific Lutheran University. She has appeared in roles, as a featured soloist, and in ensemble work with Opera Idaho, the Boise Philharmonic, Boise Baroque, Gemma Arts, Opera Bend, Opera Santa Barbara, Opera in the Ozarks and various arts groups throughout the West Coast. She started singing and studying music when she was 6-years old and brings a rich background of over 25 years of professional experience in classical singing, musical theater, and acting to every lesson.
Melissa has also been a nationally and internationally recognized voice actor for over 12 years, including a 6-year stint as the voice of one of the world’s largest jewelry companies, Pandora Jewelry, for the US and Canada.
As a Level 1 Certified participant in Andrew Byrne’s Singing Athlete Program, she brings a neuroscience and somatic approach to the studio alongside time-honored bel canto principles.
Melissa recently continued her bel canto studies at the Lucca Bel Canto Institute with master teachers Julia Radosz and Ferdinand von Bothmer. She has studied acting and performed locally at Boise Contemporary Theater as part of their Professional Actor’s Studio – experience that informs her work with text, character, presence, and honest storytelling.

Who are lessons for?
Melissa welcomes students ages 10 and up, from thoughtful beginners to experienced singers who want to strengthen technique, prepare for auditions, or reconnect with their voice.
What styles do you teach?
Lessons center on classical, musical theater and contemporary singing. A strong technical foundation supports both styles, while repertoire, diction, interpretation, and performance choices are tailored to the music in front of you.
What happens in a first lesson?
We will talk about your musical background and goals, explore your voice through gentle vocalizing, and begin working on a song. You will leave with a clearer sense of where we are headed and what to practice next.
Do I need audition or performance experience?
Not at all. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are enough. Lessons meet each singer where they are and grow from there.
What should I bring?
Bring water, sheet music/send PDF, a pencil and a notebook or device for lesson notes/recording. If you are new, Melissa can help you choose an appropriate first song.
